And Sew for Today is my new daily project. Each morning, I use a internet based random word generator to choose a word then I sew it, by hand. I'm not using patterns or pre-planning, just grabbing some fabric and thread and stitching the first thing that comes into my head. It's an experiment in typography, embroidery and fun.
I was lucky enough to inherit a lovely selection of threads, fabrics and haberdashery from my husband's Great Aunty Mary a couple of years ago. Ever since, I've been trying to think of how best to use it and this project seemed to be the perfect idea.
I'm not setting myself any strict deadlines and want to enjoy the project, so we'll see how it evolves over time. I'm hoping to create one, big final piece when I decide to stop, maybe after a year, 6 months - who knows.
I'd like to collaborate with other designers and artists and involve people using twitter and tumblr, so if you have any ideas or would like to collaborate in some way, get in touch! (email link at the bottom of the page).
For now, you can see the first 35 pieces on my tumblr. Hope you enjoy.
